Galley kitchen designs can be the most exasperating rooms to renovate because they are at the heart of almost every home. At one time, it didn’t matter what a kitchen looked like because it was usually relegated to a dark corner of the house.

When considering appliances, I calculated for standard sizes rather than under-sized \”apartment\” units. For example, 33 inches in width was allowed for the refrigerator rather than 24 inches.

The plan I came up with is an L shape with the projecting peninsula being about 30 inches deep. This will allow you to install the sink at this location and have a small area beyond for serving to the dining room. The long run of cabinets houses all the appliances and may also accommodate a full pantry with pull-out shelves.

The main feature of this galley kitchen design ideas is an island that may be designed more as a piece of furniture than as a counter. It could have a tiled top and nicely detailed surround. This island is practical in that it provides ample counter space for working as well as a place to drop keys when entering your home.

When considering materials for this space, I would strongly recommend treating the galley kitchen designs and entry hall alike. A single flooring material, such as wood or masonry, will unify the two spaces and help to achieve a feeling of more space.
Choose similar colours for walls and ceilings in both areas and ensure that hardware (door pulls, door knobs, etc.) are all the same material. A light colour wood is an excellent choice for the cabinets because it will make the new galley kitchen designs look more a part of the overall home.
